The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 23 semiconductor design projects under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme. These are being developed by startups and MSMEs to create chips and System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions, as per the reports.

Target areas include surveillance cameras, energy meters, networking systems, and microprocessor IPs. To aid this, 72 companies have been given access to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools for design support.

Vervesemi Microelectronics

Among the companies supported is Vervesemi Microelectronics, a fabless semiconductor firm based in Bengaluru and founded in 2017. Reports suggest that the company has a portfolio of more than 110 intellectual properties (IPs), 25 IC SKUs, 10 patents, and 5 trade secrets. Its work spans sectors such as aerospace, defence, energy, and industrial applications. Vervesemi has also been part of the Chips to Startup (C2S) programme.

Product Roadmap

Vervesemi has shared a roadmap of integrated circuits (ICs) that are scheduled for sampling between 2025 and 2026.

  • Weighing scale and bridge sensor ASICs – sampling end-2025
  • Smart energy metering ASICs – sampling end-2025
  • BLDC controller ASICs for small motors – sampling 2026
  • Motor-control ASICs for EVs, drones, and automation – sampling 2026
  • Data acquisition ASICs for aerospace and avionics – engineering samples 2026

Semiconductor Push

The DLI scheme is part of India’s larger semiconductor strategy. The Union Cabinet has cleared 10 chipmaking projects worth ₹1.6 trillion across 6 states. Four of these were recently approved, including proposals from SiCSem, CDIL, 3D Glass Solutions Inc., and ASIP Technologies. Together they involve investments of about ₹4,600 crore and are expected to create over 2,000 direct jobs, along with further indirect opportunities.’

Conclusion

Through the DLI scheme and the India Semiconductor Mission, the government is working to expand both design and manufacturing. The projects are expected to build domestic capability and add to employment in the semiconductor sector.
