Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state will frame a comprehensive taxi policy by 10 September. The new framework aims to address concerns of transparency, security, safety of tourists, and rationalisation of fares.

As per news reports, CM Sawant said, “I heard all their issues, even the nitty-gritty. The government is coming out with a state policy. This is not just an issue of rate rationalisation; it is also about transparency, security, and safety of tourists.”

He added that the policy will override the Goa Transport Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, and that a draft would be shared with taxi operators for feedback before finalisation.

Stakeholders’ Participation and Transparency Measures

The meeting, held at the Mantralaya in Porvorim, was attended by ministers, opposition MLAs, and taxi union representatives. A 10-member committee led by the deputy director of transport will work on the draft.

As per news reports, Taxi operators agreed in principle to display fares on a digital platform for greater transparency, though implementation details will follow further consultations.

Tourism-Focused Collaborative Approach

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted the importance of balancing the interests of tourists and operators. As per news reports, he stated, “We need to find a collaborative solution. There are issues highlighted on social media that all of us need to understand and resolve. We will come out with a policy where a 10-member committee from their side will provide inputs. A digital platform is a must. Now we will see how to take all this ahead.”

Last month, the Goa state government reported that there are 2,573 taxis with an All-Goa permit and 13,586 with an All-India permit. The state also has 757 yellow-and-black taxis and 164 blue cabs.
