The Government e Marketplace has recorded a significant milestone in public procurement, reflecting its growing role as a digital platform connecting government demand with businesses across the country.
GeM has reached a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value of ₹18.4 lakh crore, with more than ₹5 lakh crore achieved in FY26 alone.
This growth highlights the platform’s expanding role in facilitating procurement across government entities while promoting transparency and efficiency.
The platform continues to function as a digital ecosystem that enables procurement decisions, connects enterprises from different regions, and supports inclusive participation in public spending.
As per PIB, commenting on the milestone, CEO Mihir Kumar said the achievement reflects the “confidence of buyers, sellers and institutions” in a system built on transparency and technology.
A key driver of this growth has been the strong participation of Micro and Small Enterprises. In FY26, MSEs accounted for 68% of total orders and contributed 47.1% of the overall GMV.
More than 11 lakh MSEs are registered on the platform, collectively executing over 51 lakh orders worth ₹2.36 lakh crore during the year, representing growth of over 20% compared to the previous financial year.
Within this segment, over 2.1 lakh women-led MSEs secured orders exceeding ₹28,000 crore, reflecting growth of around 28%.
Similarly, SC/ST enterprises received orders worth more than ₹6,000 crore, also growing by approximately 28%. Startups contributed significantly as well, with orders exceeding ₹19,000 crore and growth of over 36%.
Technology remains central to GeM’s operations, with the platform using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and advanced analytics to improve efficiency and transparency.
These systems enable features such as ML-based catalogue validation, pre-sanity checks, and real-time transaction monitoring.
Advanced analytics tools help detect irregular patterns including abnormal pricing, potential collusive bidding behaviour, technical rejection issues, and possible buyer-seller collusion.
Additional system-driven tools, such as Bid Health Scores, support better decision-making and strengthen trust within the procurement ecosystem.
While the platform has already seen strong adoption from central ministries, departments and public sector enterprises, participation from states and union territories is increasing steadily.
Procurement by states recorded a growth of 38.3% in FY26, indicating wider acceptance of the platform.
This trend reflects growing confidence in GeM as a transparent and efficient procurement system, enabling deeper penetration across regions.
