About Graphite India

Graphite India Ltd is primarily involved in the business of manufacturing and selling graphite,  carbon, and other products.  Graphite India Limited was incorporated in 1974. It was promoted by H L Financial Consultants & Management Service Pvt.  Ltd. (FICOM) and H L Investments Pvt. Ltd. In 1988, it entered into a technical-cum-financial Collaboration with Graphite India Ltd. In 1994, it launched 550mm dia electrodes and production of 600mm dia was started. 

In 2002, Graphite India Ltd. and Carbon Investment Ltd. were amalgamated. Graphite India Ltd stands dissolved without winding up the business. It commenced its international debut in 750 mm diameter electrodes by receiving trial orders from two overseas customers in 2010. 

In 2010-2011, the company received the Capexil Award for export achievement with respect to Graphite Electrodes & Fines.

Business Segments

  • Graphite and Carbon: Under this segment, it is involved in producing graphite electrodes, other miscellaneous graphite and carbon products and related processing/service charges.
  • Others Segment: It is engaged in the manufacturing/laying of GRP pipes, high-speed steel, alloy steel, and power-generating units exclusively for outside sale.


As of March 31, 2023, the company had the following subsidiaries

  • Carbon Finance Limited: This is a wholly-owned Indian subsidiary. The principal business activities of the company revolve around investing in securities.
  • Graphite International B.V. (GIBV): It is a wholly owned subsidiary which manages and finances its subsidiaries and exploits its trademarks and patent

Krishna Kumar Bangur, Chairman

Krishna Kumar Bangur is the company’s current chairman.  He is also the Chairman of Carbon Finance Ltd. (both are subsidiaries of Emerald Co. Ltd.), Chairman for Bond Co. Ltd., Chairman at H.L. Investment Co. Ltd., Chairman at Shree Laxmi Agents Ltd. and Chairman at Innovative Properties Pvt Ltd. He is also on the executive committee at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry and the board of 8 other companies. Krishna Kumar Bangur previously occupied the position of President of the All India Organization of Employers, Chairman of the Council of Indian Employers and President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

  • The company is optimistic about numerous growth opportunities for the business. These include rising demand for domestic steel despite the challenging macro environment. This is largely driven by the government’s focused initiatives on infrastructure development.
  • By 2030-2031, per capita steel consumption is expected to increase to 160 kg as per the Government’s National Steel Policy. 
  • The government of India has withdrawn the duty on the import of scrap, which will benefit EAF steel manufacturers.
  • Graphite India believes that countries worldwide are moving towards their carbon neutrality goals, and therefore, corporations are becoming environment-conscious and adopting environment-friendly manufacturing processes. With this backdrop, steel manufacturers are steadily moving towards the EAF process, which is expected to create sustainable demand for graphite electrodes in the medium to long term.
