Dr Abasaheb Garware was the founder of the Garware Group. He was born into a middle-class family on December 21, 1903, in Tasgaon (Sangli district). He commenced his entrepreneurial journey by selling used cars in Mumbai. After developing his business in 1927-28, he initiated Deccan Motor Agency. In 1933, Dr Abasaheb Garware joined the international car trade in England to enhance his business further. Abasaheb launched the thermoplastic industry in India and successfully entered the field of nylon and synthetic fibres.
Shashikantji Garware is the whole and sole of Polyester and Hi-Tech Film Industries. He was born in Mumbai on November 5, 1934. He is the eldest son of the late Abasaheb and late Vimalabai Garware. He was educated at Dulwich College, a prestigious institute in England. He then opted for a Senior Business Management course at the University of Edinburgh, where he specialised in Administration, Sales Management and Market Research. He returned to India and joined his father’s business in 1951, having completed his education with honours.
