Razorpay has collaborated with OpenAI to simplify how developers can monetise AI-driven applications, as per news reports.
The integration brings payment capabilities directly into the development workflow, reducing the time required to launch revenue-generating products.
Through this partnership, developers using OpenAI’s Codex platform can embed Razorpay’s payment infrastructure directly within their applications.
This enables them to start accepting payments almost instantly using Razorpay’s MCP Server, removing the need for time-consuming setup processes.
Instead of building payment systems separately, developers can now describe the product they want to create and how they wish to charge users. Codex then generates the application along with integrated checkout flows and payment collection mechanisms.
Explaining the intent, Razorpay co-founder Shashank Kumar said the shift happens when ideas can “become businesses instantly”, adding that the goal is to make it “effortless to earn” alongside building with AI.
The solution is aimed at developers, student builders, solo founders, and early-stage startups. It addresses one of the biggest challenges in launching digital products, which is integrating payment systems.
With this approach, users can move from idea to product to revenue within a single workflow, without needing separate infrastructure.
This becomes particularly relevant in India, where over 20 billion UPI transactions are processed every month and the developer ecosystem continues to expand.
Razorpay is also extending its capabilities into ChatGPT, enabling businesses to manage payments through conversational prompts. Users can reconcile transactions with bank statements, track settlements, and check refund statuses without navigating traditional dashboards.
According to OpenAI’s international managing director Oliver Jay, Codex is seeing rapid adoption, with weekly users increasing “4x in just two weeks”. He noted that integrating payments allows developers to move from idea to revenue within a single system.
The initiative is part of Razorpay’s broader push into AI-driven commerce. In collaboration with OpenAI and the National Payments Corporation of India, the company has introduced agentic payment systems that allow AI to initiate and complete transactions.
