Rapido Tests Electric Buggies Service at KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station

Rapido has introduced electric buggy services at KSR Bengaluru City railway station on a pilot basis to assist passengers travelling within the station premises, as per news reports. The service started around a month ago at the railway station, also known as Majestic station, one of the city’s busiest rail hubs. 

The buggy service is available to all passengers using the station. It is mainly intended for senior citizens, passengers carrying luggage and commuters moving between railway platforms and station exits.  

Passengers are charged a fixed fare of ₹12 per seat for travel from the platforms to the designated pickup area outside the station. 

Fare Structure and Ride Bookings 

According to the reports, the fare for the buggy service has been fixed by railway authorities. Passengers booking autos or cabs through Rapido from the station can redeem the ₹12 buggy charge against their ride amount. 

The company said the initiative is currently being tested only at KSR Bengaluru City station. Further expansion to other railway stations may be considered after reviewing passenger usage and operational requirements during the pilot phase. 

Lounge Facility at Pickup Point 

Rapido has also been operating an air-conditioned pickup lounge at the station for the past 6 months. The lounge has been set up near the designated boarding area used for app-based ride pickups. 

Passengers using the buggy facility are transported from railway platforms to the pickup zone, where autos and cabs are available for onward travel.  

The company has also deployed staff members at the station to assist passengers with luggage handling and directions inside the premises. 

Railway Division’s Mobility Tie-Ups 

The Bengaluru railway division had earlier partnered with Rapido and Namma Yatri to set up booking kiosks and waiting areas at railway stations across the city. 

Rapido currently operates kiosks at KSR Bengaluru City, Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal, Yeswantpur and Hoodi railway stations. Namma Yatri has kiosks at Krishnarajapuram and Whitefield stations.  

The electric buggy service remains limited to KSR Bengaluru City station under the ongoing pilot programme.

Conclusion 

The pilot project currently remains limited to KSR Bengaluru City railway station. Further rollout to other stations will depend on passenger response and operational feasibility.
