Flipkart, the Walmart-backed e-commerce leader, has executed definitive agreements to acquire a majority stake in Minivet AI, a generative AI and machine-learning solutions provider founded in 2024.

The acquisition is aimed at bolstering Flipkart’s core technology stack as online shopping increasingly moves towards AI-driven, visual and conversational discovery.

Strategic Rationale

The financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed. Flipkart said the acquisition will help it integrate Minivet AI’s specialised technology and talent to accelerate its transition to more immersive and intuitive shopping experiences.

Minivet AI’s platform focuses on generative video solutions for e-commerce, converting static product catalogues into engaging video content at scale. It also offers capabilities in semantic search and conversational features, positioning it as a comprehensive GenAI partner for online retail platforms.

According to Flipkart, bringing these capabilities in-house is expected to improve customer engagement and conversion rates across its marketplace over time. The move reflects broader industry trends in which e-commerce companies are investing in advanced AI tools to support product discovery and content creation at scale.

Key Insights

As per press release, Ravi Iyer, Senior Vice President, Corporate at Flipkart, commented that the acquisition enhances Flipkart’s generative AI capabilities by integrating proprietary technology and niche talent critical for visual- and video-led commerce.

Aditya Rachakonda, Founder of Minivet AI, said the partnership will accelerate deployment of the startup’s GenAI solutions across India’s leading e-commerce platform and make shopping more intuitive for millions of customers.
