JSW Energy Limited has successfully completed the acquisition of Raigarh Champa Rail Infrastructure Private Limited through the corporate insolvency resolution process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. The acquisition marks a strategic step in strengthening the company’s infrastructure support for its power generation operations.
The rail infrastructure company plays a crucial role in supporting logistics for the power plant operated by JSW Energy’s subsidiary.
Raigarh Champa Rail Infrastructure Private Limited provides railway infrastructure services to JSW Mahanadi Power Company Limited. This entity owns a large 3,600 MW thermal power plant located in Chhattisgarh.
Currently, 1,800 MW of the plant’s capacity is operational, while the remaining capacity is under construction. The rail infrastructure supports transportation requirements essential for the functioning of the plant, including fuel logistics and operational connectivity.
The acquisition has been completed at a consideration value of ₹700.1 crore. As per the approved resolution plan, the payment includes a mix of cash and the issuance of Non-Convertible Debentures by RCRIPL to its financial creditors.
This structure allows JSW Energy to integrate the rail infrastructure asset while addressing creditor obligations under the insolvency resolution framework.
With the acquisition of RCRIPL, JSW Energy gains operational control over railway infrastructure supporting the entire 3,600 MW capacity of the power plant. This is expected to improve efficiency in managing logistics and enhance the reliability of key inputs required for power generation.
The move also reduces dependency risks associated with third-party infrastructure providers, ensuring smoother operational integration.
Following this acquisition, along with the previously completed acquisition of KSK Water Infrastructures Private Limited, JSW Mahanadi Power Company has secured essential resources for its full capacity operations.
JSW Energy currently has a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.1 GW, including 13.3 GW operational and 14.2 GW under construction across thermal and renewable energy segments. The company also maintains a pipeline capacity of 4.6 GW and significant energy storage projects totaling 29.6 GWh.
On March 27, 2026, JSW Energy share price opened at ₹491.80, touching the day’s low at ₹484.30, as of 11:07 AM on the NSE.

The acquisition of Raigarh Champa Rail Infrastructure strengthens JSW Energy’s operational ecosystem by securing critical rail logistics for its major power plant. As the company continues to expand its generation and storage capabilities, such strategic infrastructure integrations are expected to support long-term growth and reliability in power generation while aligning with its target of reaching 30 GW capacity by 2030.
