IndiGo on Wednesday opened applications for Captains and Senior First Officers for its Airbus A320 fleet, as per news reports.
The recruitment drive is for adding experienced cockpit crew at a time when the airline is adjusting staffing levels across operations. IndiGo currently operates the largest domestic network among Indian carriers.
The hiring comes ahead of the implementation of revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Airlines are required to comply with the new rules by February. The revised norms are intended to limit pilot fatigue and are expected to increase the number of pilots needed to operate existing flight schedules.
IndiGo is seeking Airbus-rated pilots holding a valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). Applicants are required to submit operational details such as total flying hours, total hours on the A320 family, hours flown as pilot-in-command and as first officer, last A320 flight date, current flying status and current location. The airline is focusing on candidates with active and recent A320 experience.
Separately, the airline has revised several pilot allowances with effect from January 1, 2026. The increase ranges from ₹25 to ₹2,000 across different allowance categories, including domestic layover, night duty and deadhead travel.
A captain’s domestic layover allowance for a 10.01–24 hour halt has been increased to ₹3,000 from ₹2,000 earlier, while the corresponding allowance for a first officer has risen to ₹1,500 from ₹1,000.
For layovers extending beyond 24 hours, captains will now receive ₹150 per hour compared with ₹100 earlier, and first officers ₹75 per hour instead of ₹50. Night allowance rates have been revised to ₹2,000 per hour for captains and ₹1,000 per hour for first officers.
Deadhead allowance per scheduled block hour has been increased to ₹4,000 for captains from ₹3,000, and to ₹2,000 for first officers from ₹1,500.
Pilots will also be eligible for tail-swap allowances, which apply when a scheduled aircraft is replaced with another aircraft during operations.
As of January 01, 2026, 11:09 am, InterGlobe Aviation (Indigo) share price was trading at ₹5,142, a 1.63% increase from the previous closing price.
