Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) reduced its permanent employee strength in FY26, according to its annual report. The company had 7,499 permanent employees as of March 31, 2026, compared with 8,202 a year earlier, a decline of 8.6%.

The number of workers on its rolls also fell during the year. HUL reported 17,490 workers at the end of FY26, down from 18,465 in FY25, a decline of 5.3%.

Sales Rise, Profit Remains Flat

The changes in workforce numbers came during a year when HUL reported sales growth of 5%. Profit after tax from continuing operations remained largely unchanged compared with the previous financial year.

The maker of Dove soaps and Surf detergents, like several consumer goods companies, operated in an environment where demand growth remained uneven across categories.

Companies in the sector have been focusing on productivity and costs amid slower volume growth.

Management Outlines Priorities

Priya Nair, who took over as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer on August 1, 2025, outlined the company's approach in the annual report.

She noted that the business focused on portfolio choices, capital allocation and execution during the year. According to the report, HUL continued to work on product development, pricing, distribution, and consumer segmentation while directing resources towards categories identified for future growth.

Nair received remuneration of ₹18.19 crore during FY26. The annual report also showed that median employee remuneration increased by 6.1% during the year.

Smaller Businesses Record Growth

Some businesses within HUL's portfolio reported stronger growth than broader performance. Lakme Lever's salon business posted revenue of ₹386 crore in FY26, an increase of 11% from the previous year.

Zywie Ventures, which owns plant-based nutrition brand Oziva, reported revenue of ₹462 crore during the year. The business recorded 80% growth compared with FY25.
