BEML Limited has released the prototype six-coach trainset for Namma Metro’s Pink Line, which runs 21 km between Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara.
The 1st test run was held on December 11, 2025, at the BEML Rail Complex in Bengaluru in the presence of teams from BEML and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), as per news reports.
The prototype is part of a ₹3,177 crore order under which BEML will supply 318 standard-gauge metro cars for the Pink Line and the Blue Line (Airport Line). All cars are being designed, engineered, and manufactured at BEML’s Bengaluru facility.
The trainset will be moved to the Kothanur depot after 15 December and will then enter a testing and commissioning phase expected to run for at least five months.
The stainless-steel trainset measures 2,762 mm in width and 3,800 mm in height. A six-coach set can carry 2,008 passengers. It is designed for a top speed of 90 kmph, with operational speeds capped at 80 kmph.
Braking uses a combination of regenerative and pneumatic systems. The trains are equipped for CBTC-based driverless operations and include wide gangways, accessibility features, USB charging points, and systems meeting updated fire and international safety standards.
BMRCL plans to open the 7.5 km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere by June 2026, supported initially by five trains. The 13.7 km underground stretch between Dairy Circle and Nagawara is scheduled for December 2026.
Once the entire corridor is operational, the Pink Line will run 23 trainsets from 5 am to midnight, with trains expected every 4.5 minutes during peak hours and every eight minutes during non-peak periods.
