Polycab Share Price Rises on June 18; Bags ₹6,447 Crore BharatNet Project from BSNL
Polycab India Limited has entered into a significant agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), acting as the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) for the BharatNet project.
The agreement covers the design, supply, construction, installation, upgradation, operation, and maintenance of the middle-mile network under Package No. 4. This package pertains to the Karnataka, Goa, and Puducherry telecom circles.
Contract Value and Scope
The total contract is valued at ₹6,447.54 crores (inclusive of GST). This includes:
- Capital expenditure (Capex): ₹3,741.92 crores
- Operating expenditure (Opex) for newly constructed network: ₹2,245.15 crores
- Opex for the existing network: ₹460.47 crores
Polycab's role as PIA will involve the complete infrastructure development and long-term maintenance of the middle-mile network, which is crucial for extending high-speed broadband connectivity to rural and remote regions.
Contract Duration and Terms
The project is to be executed in two major phases:
- Construction phase: Three years for building and upgrading the network.
- Maintenance phase: A 10-year commitment post-construction. The contract specifies an O&M fee of 5.5% of Capex annually for the first five years and 6.5% of Capex annually for the following five years.
Domestic Project with National Significance
This agreement has been awarded by a domestic entity, BSNL, and aligns with the Government of India’s Digital India initiative. The BharatNet project is one of the largest rural broadband projects globally and aims to provide internet connectivity to over 2.5 lakh gram panchayats across India.
Polycab India Share Price Performance
On June 18, 2025, Polycab share price opened at ₹6,200.50, up from its previous close of ₹6,041.50. At 9:18 AM, the share price of Polycab was trading at ₹6,110.00, up by 1.13% on the NSE.
