Flipkart announced that it will create more than 2.2 lakh job opportunities across India before the Big Billion Days sale, as per news reports. The positions will support delivery, supply chain and other operational needs during the festive period.
The company noted that the seasonal workforce will help strengthen last-mile delivery in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with new 650 festive-only delivery hubs, as per PTI. The expansion is expected to improve service reach during the high-demand shopping period.
In addition to hiring, Flipkart is scaling up its infrastructure and technology deployment in 28 states. This includes support for warehouses, logistics, and systems designed to manage the increase in festive season orders.
As per news reports, Flipkart stated that the festive workforce will include a 10% rise in women employees. It has also outlined specific plans to provide opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs), with the intention of making seasonal recruitment more inclusive.
Amazon India had earlier announced that it created over 1.5 lakh seasonal jobs across its fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery network. The company also reported hiring thousands of women associates and more than 2,000 PWDs in its workforce.
Both Flipkart and Amazon typically add large numbers of temporary staff to manage peak shopping activity. The additional workers are brought in to handle deliveries, warehouse management, and customer service during one of the busiest periods for e-commerce in India.
Flipkart’s creation of 2.2 lakh jobs adds to the wider seasonal hiring seen across the e-commerce sector. Combined with Amazon’s 1.5 lakh seasonal positions, the sector is generating several lakh temporary roles this year to meet festive shopping demand across the country.
