Battery cell technology startup e-TRNL Energy has closed a ₹27.4 crore (about $3 million) seed round to accelerate development of its next-generation energy storage cells and local manufacturing capabilities.
The seed round was led by IAN Group through its IAN Alpha Fund, with participation from Navam Capital, Speciale Invest and other investors.
The capital will be channelled into finalising product engineering, running deeper performance and safety validations, and proving scalable manufacturing readiness within India.
Founded in 2021 by Apoorv Shaligram and Dr Uttam Kumar Sen, the company is working on re-engineering battery cell structure and production methods rather than relying on conventional cell formats.
It currently operates a 20,000 sq ft R&D and early-stage manufacturing setup in Bengaluru and has already secured two patents while filing additional applications.
e-TRNL Energy plans to build a 250 MWh pilot production facility by 2027 as a stepping stone toward a larger 2 GWh manufacturing scale in later phases. The pilot line is expected to help validate both process stability and commercial output benchmarks.
Its initial commercial cells will be based on LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry, with future product lines planned around LMFP and sodium-ion technologies. The company is positioning its platform around improved cell architecture and process innovation aimed at cost efficiency and safety.
