Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, led an important meeting yesterday with top officials from three ministries—Petroleum and Natural Gas, Road Transport and Highways, and Heavy Industries. The goal was to fast-track the rollout of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations under the PM E-Drive scheme.
The PM E-Drive scheme, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, aims to build a countrywide network of EV charging stations. With a budget of ₹2,000 crore, the government plans to set up around 72,000 EV public charging stations.
These stations will be located in 50 national highway corridors and high-traffic locations like metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel stations, and state highways.
The aim is to reduce India’s reliance on fossil fuels and promote clean and eco-friendly transport.
Minister Kumaraswamy said, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is becoming a global model for sustainable transport.” He added that the scheme is not just about building infrastructure—it is about ensuring energy security and creating green economic growth.
