Tata Motors has announced a significant leadership reshuffle as it prepares to hive off its commercial vehicle division into a separate listed entity, TML Commercial Vehicles Limited (TMLCV), effective October 1, 2025. The move underscores the company’s strategic focus on passenger vehicles and electric mobility.
Shailesh Chandra, currently heading Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, has been appointed MD and CEO of Tata Motors for a three-year term starting October 1. He will oversee passenger and EV businesses, steering the company’s push into the rapidly growing electric vehicle segment.
Girish Wagh, presently executive director and key managerial personnel, will step down on October 1 to take charge as MD & CEO of TMLCV, leading the newly-formed commercial vehicle entity. Meanwhile, PB Balaji, group CFO, will assume the role of CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc in the UK from November 17, joining Tata Motors’ board as a non-executive, non-independent director.
Chandra joined Tata Motors in 1995 and has held diverse leadership roles, including production manager, senior manager in vendor development, and divisional manager. He briefly moved to Tata Sons Limited in 2013, returning in 2016 to lead corporate strategy and business transformation. He later became president of passenger vehicles and electric mobility units, playing a pivotal role in Tata Motors’ electrification journey.
Chandra also serves on boards of Tata Technologies, Fiat India, and international subsidiaries. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from Banaras Hindu University and an executive MBA from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.
