Royal Enfield's International Revenue Tops ₹1,000 Crore in Q1, But Indonesia Throws a Speed Bump

Royal Enfield achieved a major milestone in Q1 FY27, with its international business generating more than ₹1,000 crore in revenue for the first time. Overseas operations now contribute around 15% of the company's total revenue, reflecting the growing importance of global markets to its business. However, despite the strong performance, the company's plans to expand in Indonesia face challenges due to steep import taxes.
International Business Crosses ₹1,000-Crore Milestone
Royal Enfield's international revenue has doubled over the past two years, highlighting the company's growing global footprint. Brazil has emerged as its biggest success story, with the motorcycle maker now holding the No. 2 position in the country's middleweight motorcycle segment.
The company said one in every four motorcycles it exports is shipped to Brazil, where retail volumes have tripled over the last three years. To strengthen its presence further, Royal Enfield is setting up a completely knocked down (CKD) facility in Brazil to support local demand.
The company is also expanding across Latin America, with Colombia showing healthy momentum, while Argentina and Mexico remain key focus markets.
Indonesia Expansion Hits a Speed Bump
While Royal Enfield is exploring manufacturing opportunities in Indonesia, its expansion plans have encountered a major hurdle. The country levies a luxury tax of up to 160% on imported motorcycles, making it difficult for premium motorcycle brands to compete through imports alone.
The company is evaluating a local manufacturing facility in Indonesia, which could help lower costs and improve its competitiveness in one of Southeast Asia's largest two-wheeler markets.
US Recovery Offers Fresh Opportunity
Royal Enfield also sees signs of improvement in the US market. Management said demand is gradually recovering after a recent trade agreement reduced tariffs on motorcycles, creating a more favourable environment for future growth.

Conclusion
Royal Enfield's record ₹1,000-crore international revenue underscores the success of its global expansion strategy, particularly in Brazil and other Latin American markets. However, high import duties in Indonesia remain a key obstacle to its Southeast Asian ambitions. How the company navigates this challenge through potential local manufacturing could shape the next phase of its international growth.
