Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange will remain open for trading on March 19 and March 20, even though festivals like Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, and Eid-ul-Fitr fall during this period.

There are no official stock market holidays on these dates as per the exchange calendar.

Why Markets Are Not Closed

Stock market holidays in India are based on a pre-decided exchange calendar, not all public or regional festivals.

Even though festivals like Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, and Eid-ul-Fitr are widely celebrated, they are not included in the official trading holiday list.

Trading Schedule (March 19–21)

  • March 19 (Thursday): Market Open
  • March 20 (Friday): Market Open
  • March 21 (Saturday): Market Closed (Weekend)

All segments like equities, derivatives, currency, and commodities will function normally on trading days.

Stock Market Holidays in 2026

The exchanges have listed 15 trading holidays for 2026.

So far, markets have been closed for:

  • Maharashtra Municipal Elections
  • Republic Day
  • Holi

Upcoming holidays include:

  • Ram Navami – March 26
  • Mahavir Jayanti – March 31

Conclusion

Despite multiple festivals this week, stock markets will function normally on March 19 and 20. Investors should rely on the official exchange calendar, as not every festival leads to a market holiday.
