The Indian government has reinforced its defence preparedness by approving military procurement programmes worth ₹67,000 crore, aiming to bolster capabilities across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
This significant move reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening national security and military efficiency.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for proposals totalling nearly ₹67,000 crore. These procurements are designed to improve combat readiness, surveillance capabilities, and strategic mobility across various military domains.
All projects are slated for procurement under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category to promote indigenous defence manufacturing.
Defence sector stocks are expected to be in action from these massive procurement announcements, with companies involved in manufacturing night vision systems, autonomous surface craft, radar systems, missile defence equipment, and remotely piloted aircraft likely to see increased investor interest.
Major defence contractors, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), are positioned to capitalise on these opportunities as the government prioritises indigenous manufacturing under the 'Buy (Indian)' category.
The Indian Army received approval to procure Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sights for BMP infantry vehicles. This move is aimed at enhancing visibility during night missions, improving the manoeuvrability and effectiveness of Mechanised Infantry in tough operational environments.
The Navy’s operational edge will be enhanced through the procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft for anti-submarine missions. Additional approvals were given for upgrades to the BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System and the acquisition of BrahMos Launchers and Fire Control System, strengthening both offensive and defensive maritime capabilities.

The Indian Air Force will benefit from the induction of advanced Mountain Radars to monitor airspace in rugged terrains. The SPYDER and SAKSHAM air defence systems will be upgraded for better integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System, thereby improving real-time threat response.
All three Services will acquire Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft capable of diverse missions, including long-range surveillance and precision strikes. Provisions for maintenance of C-17 and C-130J aircraft fleets, along with a comprehensive contract for the S-400 missile system, will ensure sustained mission readiness.
The ₹67,000 crore approvals mark a significant stride in India’s defence preparedness. By boosting the technological prowess and logistical strength of the Army, Navy and Air Force, the Centre aims to ensure superior combat capability and secure borders through indigenous resources.
