Amazon Cuts Jobs in Robotics Division Amid Latest Round of Layoffs

Amazon has continued its restructuring efforts by reducing jobs in its robotics division, reflecting the company’s broader push to streamline operations and improve efficiency through automation and artificial intelligence.
Robotics Division Layoffs and Automation Strategy
As per Reuters report, Amazon confirmed that it has reduced roles within its robotics unit, with around 100 white-collar employees affected. The team impacted is responsible for developing robots and automated conveyance systems used mainly in warehouse operations.
The job cuts also follow Amazon’s decision earlier this year to halt development of the robotic arm project “Blue Jay.” The system, unveiled at an event in October, featured multiple robotic arms capable of picking several items simultaneously and was designed to assist warehouse workers operating in compact spaces.
Wider Workforce Reductions Across the Company
These layoffs are part of a broader workforce reduction programme at Amazon. Beginning in October, the company initiated a major round of job cuts affecting approximately 14,000 white-collar employees.
Including later reductions, Amazon has now eliminated around 30,000 corporate roles, citing operational efficiency improvements driven by artificial intelligence and efforts to reshape company culture.
Despite the reductions, corporate employees represent only a small portion of Amazon’s overall workforce, which totals roughly 1.5 million people, most of whom are hourly workers employed in fulfilment centres.
"We regularly review our organisations to make sure teams are best set up to innovate and deliver for our customers," Amazon said in the statement, without specifying the number of jobs cut.

Conclusion
The layoffs highlight Amazon’s continued focus on streamlining operations and improving efficiency through automation and artificial intelligence. While corporate roles are being reduced, the company’s broader strategy remains centred on technological innovation and optimising warehouse operations to enhance productivity and long-term operational performance.
