The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to launch the India Skills Accelerator, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing skill development, employability and workforce preparedness to support India’s long-term economic growth ambitions, as per PIB.
The India Skills Accelerator will focus on bridging structural skill gaps through lifelong learning, flexible curriculum structures, vocational and higher education integration, and institutional capacity building.
The programme aligns with Vision @2047 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, targeting workforce readiness across emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, green energy, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing.
The initiative will support innovative financing models for skilling, promote coordinated stakeholder engagement, and track global workforce demand trends to strengthen international employability. Regulatory bodies including AICTE and UGC will work closely with MSDE to enable effective rollout and scale.
Sanjiv Bajaj, Co-Chair for India Skills Accelerator, and Chairman & Managing Director, Bajaj Finserv Ltd., stated “Under the age of 25, skilling India’s youth is central to converting our demographic advantage into economic leadership.
At Bajaj Finserv, skilling is a core pillar of our social commitment under the Group’s ₹5,000 crore Bajaj Beyond CSR programme. Sustained investment in human capital will be critical to realising the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”
In partnership with the World Economic Forum, it positions India as a trusted, future-ready talent contributor to the global economy,” said Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Co-Chair for India Skills Accelerator and Executive Chairperson, Apollo Health Co & Promoter Director, Apollo Hospitals.
The programme will operate under a joint governance framework involving government and private-sector co-chairs, in collaboration with WEF. MSDE will lead strategic planning, stakeholder coordination and performance monitoring, supported by inter-ministerial cooperation with the Ministries of External Affairs and Education.
