
In a significant move to foster inclusive rural growth, the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and the Department of Posts have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance financial and logistics services in rural areas.
This partnership aims to empower Self Help Groups (SHGs), women entrepreneurs, and rural enterprises, aligning with the Union Budget 2025's vision for India Post's role in rural economic transformation.
On January 7, 2026, the MoU was signed in the presence of key ministers, including Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
The collaboration seeks to leverage the extensive network of India Post and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) to provide integrated financial and logistics services.
This initiative will support SHGs, women entrepreneurs, rural enterprises, and MSMEs in accessing essential services.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the government's commitment to a whole-of-government approach, ensuring development extends beyond infrastructure to include livelihood creation and self-reliance.
The initiative aims to empower rural communities, contributing to a developed and self-reliant India.
Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia emphasised the role of India Post Payments Bank in strengthening last-mile service delivery.
The initiative will equip associated institutions with electronic tablets, point-of-sale machines, and certification, enabling efficient delivery of services like Post Office Savings Schemes and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana directly to households.

The partnership will unlock market opportunities for women-led SHG enterprises by integrating them with India Post's logistics ecosystem.
The Mission will identify SHG enterprises with logistics potential and support capacity building in packaging and export readiness.
India Post will provide logistics and export facilitation services, promoting SHG products through its postal network.
The MoU between MoRD and the Department of Posts is poised to enhance financial inclusion, improve market access, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women and entrepreneurs. This collaboration aligns with the vision of inclusive growth and a self-reliant India.
