The Maharashtra Government has approved financial assistance of ₹164.83 crore for farmers whose crops were damaged due to unseasonal rainfall in March 2026, as per news reports.

The Revenue and Forest Department issued a government resolution regarding compensation for losses reported during the period.

The Maharashtra Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) shared details of the decision on May 18 through a post on X. According to the resolution, the approved amount is ₹1,64,83,44,000.

Crop Damage Reported in Several Areas

Unseasonal rainfall during March affected standing crops in different parts of the state. Farmers reported damage to crops during the harvesting period, particularly in rain-sensitive agricultural regions.

The government said the relief amount would be provided to affected farmers based on loss assessments carried out by local authorities. The resolution includes details related to allocation and disbursement of the approved funds.

The assistance is intended to cover losses linked to untimely rainfall that occurred during the month.

Earlier Announcements for Farmers

The latest compensation approval comes after the Maharashtra government announced several farm-related measures in the 2026-27 state Budget earlier this year.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced a crop loan waiver for farmers with pending agricultural loans up to September 30, 2025.

Under the scheme, farmers with crop loans of up to ₹2 lakh are eligible for a waiver. The government had also announced incentives of up to ₹50,000 for farmers who repaid loans on schedule.

Budget Allocation for Rural Relief

The state government had also earmarked ₹20,000 crore for waiving electricity bills of farmers using agricultural pumps up to 7.5 horsepower.

These measures were included in Maharashtra’s ₹7.69 lakh crore Budget for FY27, which contained allocations for infrastructure projects, welfare spending, and rural support programmes.
