Government Considers Asset Monetisation Proposals Worth Over ₹1,100 Crore!

An Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) has recommended asset monetisation proposals worth more than ₹1,100 crore for consideration by the Cabinet-delegated Alternative Mechanism (AM), as per news reports.
The proposals relate mainly to surplus land and buildings owned by Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), the Finance Ministry said on November 5, 2026.
The properties have been identified for monetisation on account of their surplus or underutilised status. The recommendations will now be placed before the Alternative Mechanism, which will decide whether to approve the proposals.
Inter-Ministerial Group Reviews Proposals
The IMG is chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), with the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) serving as co-chair.
The group examined the proposals before referring them to the Cabinet-delegated panel. The recommendations are subject to approval, and the concerned entities can take up further monetisation activities only after receiving the required clearances.
According to the Finance Ministry, the process will follow the prescribed procedures. The latest recommendations do not mean that the assets have already been sold or that the transactions have been completed.
NLMC's Role in the Process
The National Land Monetisation Corporation (NLMC) is the government body responsible for assisting CPSEs and other government entities in monetising surplus land and non-core assets.
Wholly owned by the Government and operating under the administrative control of the DPE, NLMC was established following its announcement in the Union Budget 2021-22.
Its work includes assessing properties, conducting due diligence, determining asset valuations and structuring transactions. It also undertakes market-facing activities related to asset monetisation.
Government's Asset Monetisation Programme
The Government's asset monetisation exercise covers surplus and underutilised properties held by public sector enterprises and other government entities.
The process involves identifying suitable assets, assessing their value and preparing them for transactions.
