Apple has announced a set of environmental initiatives in India, including an initial investment of ₹100 crore to support renewable energy development, as per news reports.
The company said the programme will help create more than 150 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity in partnership with CleanMax.
The planned capacity is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 1.5 lakh households annually.
Apple said the investment forms part of its plans to increase renewable energy use across its supply chain operations in India.
Apple stated that it has earlier worked with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects supplying power to its offices and retail stores in India. According to the company, these facilities currently operate on 100% renewable energy.
The latest investment is aimed at expanding renewable energy infrastructure linked to manufacturing and supply-chain operations. Apple said the renewable energy portfolio may be expanded further over the coming years.
Sarah Chandler, Apple’s Vice President for Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, said, “At Apple, our commitment to the environment is also a driving force for innovation — across the company and around the world. We’re proud to expand our efforts to invest in India’s clean energy economy and protect the country’s precious natural resources.”
Apple also announced waste management and recycling initiatives in partnership with WWF-India and Saahas Zero Waste.
The programme focuses on collection, sorting, and recovery of recyclable waste materials through traceable systems.
The model was first implemented in Goa and is now being extended to Coimbatore. Apple said the programme is being carried out in coordination with local authorities, waste workers and communities to reduce plastic leakage into nearby ecosystems.
Separately, Apple has partnered with Acumen to support 6 early-stage enterprises working in areas such as waste management, regenerative agriculture, and circular economy solutions. The programme includes grant funding, mentorship, and technical assistance for participating businesses.
Globally, the company said its greenhouse gas emissions have declined by more than 60% compared with 2015 levels. Apple has set a target of becoming carbon neutral across its operations and supply chain by 2030.
