The Centre and the Rajasthan government held discussions with industry representatives on investment opportunities in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, focusing on incentives, industrial infrastructure and policy support available in the state, as per PTI news reports.
The meeting was attended by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, senior officials and companies linked to the sector.
Vaishnaw noted that the electronics manufacturing sector has expanded in recent years, with groundwork prepared for nearly 450 factories over the past 2 years.
He mentioned that 75 factories were approved during the last year under the Electronic Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).
The minister added that Rajasthan has scope to increase its presence in electronics manufacturing as more companies look at domestic production facilities.
According to him, growth in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing could also support employment generation across production and related services.
Sharma stated that Rajasthan’s first semiconductor cluster in Bhiwadi has already started operations. The cluster is spread across 50 acres and has an annual production capacity of around six crore chips.
The state government noted that investment proposals worth more than ₹1,200 crore have been received from nearly 20 companies connected to semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
Sharma also referred to the India Semiconductor Mission, which has an incentive outlay exceeding ₹76,000 crore for the development of semiconductor manufacturing and related industries in the country.
The Rajasthan government has introduced a dedicated semiconductor policy along with other industrial policies aimed at attracting investments into the sector.
Financial support measures include capital subsidies and interest subventions for companies setting up manufacturing facilities in the state.
Rajasthan’s “triple-S” advantage, silica, skill and solar was also highlighted while outlining the state’s position in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
The state government noted that areas including the Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar industrial belt and Kankani are being developed for chip design, electronics manufacturing and system development activities.
Officials from the industry and commerce department also presented infrastructure plans and investment opportunities during the interaction with industry stakeholders.
