
Processing Timelines for temporary visas to Canada have shifted in April 2026, with Indian applicants seeing shorter waits in some categories, as per news reports.
Data released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada shows visitor visas are now taking about 23 days, while study permits are being processed in roughly 3 weeks. Work permits are currently taking close to 8 weeks.
Work permit timelines for Indian applicants have increased slightly, moving from 7 weeks to 8 weeks over the past month. This contrasts with sharper changes in other regions.
Applicants in Pakistan saw processing times drop from 29 weeks to 16 weeks. Smaller reductions were recorded for those applying from within Canada and the United States, while timelines for Nigeria and the Philippines remained unchanged.
IRCC’s benchmark stands at 60 days for overseas applications and 120 days for those filed within Canada.
Visitor visa timelines for Indian applicants have declined from 37 days to 23 days between late March and mid-April. This is one of the more visible changes across visa categories during the period.
Nigeria also recorded a reduction of about 10 days, while Pakistan saw a smaller drop. In contrast, timelines for the United States and the Philippines increased slightly. The service standard for visitor visas filed from outside Canada remains 14 days.
Study permit processing times for Indian applicants have reduced to around 3 weeks, down from 4 weeks earlier. Similar 1-week declines were observed for applicants from Nigeria and the United States.
Pakistan recorded a marginal increase, with timelines rising to 12 weeks. Processing times for applicants already in Canada and those applying from the Philippines remained unchanged.
IRCC continues to maintain a 60-day benchmark for applications submitted from abroad.
Super visa timelines have declined across all countries tracked. For Indian applicants, processing times have reduced from 202 days to 182 days, a drop of nearly 3 weeks.
Applicants from the United States also saw a similar reduction, with timelines falling to 164 days. Despite the decline, processing times remain above the 112-day service standard. Super visa applications must be submitted from outside Canada.
