8th Pay Commission Still Lacks Key Officials as DoPT Extends Application Deadline Again
Central government employees are eagerly waiting for updates on the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). However, progress seems slow, as the government has not yet appointed key officials to the panel. This delay may affect the overall functioning of the pay commission.
Application Deadline for 8th Pay Commission Extended Again
On July 3, 2025, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) extended the deadline for applications to four Under Secretary posts in the 8th CPC. The new last date is now July 31, 2025.
This is the third extension since the original deadline of May 21, 2025. The dates were earlier extended to June 10, then to June 30, and now further pushed to the end of July.
Why Is There a Delay in the Formation of the 8th Pay Commission?
The DoPT had invited applications through a circular on April 22, 2025. The aim was to fill four Under Secretary (Level 11) posts on a deputation basis under the Department of Expenditure.
However, it appears that eligible officers have not shown interest, and no suitable applications have been received so far. As a result, the department keeps extending the deadline.
Who Can Apply for These Posts?
According to the circular, officers from All India Services or other Organized Group ‘A’ Services of the Government of India are eligible. They must be qualified for appointment at the Under Secretary level under the Central Staffing Scheme.
Preference will be given to officers with:
- Experience in handling pay matters of the central government.
- Strong data analysis skills.
The tenure of these officers will match the working duration of the 8th Pay Commission. After the CPC’s work ends, they may be assigned to other roles under the staffing scheme.
Conclusion
The delay in appointing key officers to the 8th Pay Commission raises concerns among central government employees. As the deadline has now been extended to July 31, 2025, all eyes are on how soon the government can move forward and officially form the new pay panel.
