AquaAirX, a Bengaluru‑based robotics startup that builds amphibious drones, announced a ₹12.5 crore financing round on January 28, 2026.

The round was led by Rainmatter, the investment arm of Zerodha, and included Prime Venture Partners, Wyser and India Accelerator.

Funding Details and Investor Participation

The ₹12.5 crore injection will support AquaAirX’s core technology development and team expansion. Rainmatter highlighted the startup’s systems‑level approach to multi‑domain autonomy, while other investors were attracted by the potential to replace separate air and underwater platforms with a single solution.

Technology Focus and Product Development

AquaAirX is creating unmanned platforms capable of transitioning from aerial flight to underwater operation without manual intervention.

The technology aims to deliver continuous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) with reduced response time and operational risk.

In addition to the amphibious drone, the company is developing a Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (HAUV) for precise inspection and intervention tasks.

Use of Funds and Operational Plans

The capital will be allocated to enhance the autonomy stack, control systems, sensing and communication modules, and to improve the reliability of air‑to‑water transitions. AquaAirX will also expand its engineering and research teams across robotics, autonomy and embedded systems.

A portion of the funds is earmarked for testing, validation and certification to meet defence‑grade standards, with a target to commence manufacturing and enter defence and commercial markets by 2027.

Conclusion

AquaAirX’s ₹12.5 crore funding round provides resources to advance its amphibious drone technology, broaden its team, and pursue certification for defence and commercial applications. The involvement of Rainmatter and other investors underscores confidence in the startup’s multi‑domain autonomy strategy.
