Pocket FM Collaborates with OpenAI to Expand AI-Native Audio Content Creation

Pocket FM, an audio series platform, has entered into a collaboration with OpenAI to introduce artificial intelligence tools into parts of its content creation systems, as per news reports.  

The company said OpenAI’s APIs will be used in several internal processes related to the production and publishing of audio shows. The tools are to be added to the existing workflow used by creators and production teams on the platform. 

Creator-Led Publishing Model 

Pocket FM operates a platform where writers and producers publish episodic audio stories through its mobile application. The company said it works with more than 300,000 creators producing shows across different genres. 

According to the company, the platform records over 12 billion minutes of listening each month, showing user activity across its catalogue of audio series. 

Development of AI-Based Content 

The company said it began incorporating generative AI tools into its production infrastructure in 2023. At that time, parts of its internal content framework were adjusted to support AI-assisted workflows. 

Pocket FM stated that the platform now hosts more than 100,000 AI-native audio series. Titles created using AI tools have been the fastest-growing segment on the service. 

Growth in AI Titles 

Pocket FM said the number of AI-supported titles has been increasing at roughly 30% month-on-month. These titles are produced by creators using tools available within the platform’s content systems. 

The company said the collaboration with OpenAI will support further development of such tools across the production process. 

Language and International Distribution 

Pocket FM said the collaboration will also support the distribution of its audio content across languages. The company plans to use OpenAI’s multilingual and translation tools to adapt titles for listeners in different regions. 

This would allow audio series created in 1 language to be made available to audiences in other markets.

Pocket FM said the integration of OpenAI’s technology will be used within its existing production framework as the volume of content on the platform continues to grow.  

The company expects the tools to support creators and assist with distributing audio series across different languages and markets.
