Hartek Power has been awarded a renewable energy contract valued at ₹353.77 crore for a solar power project with battery energy storage in Karnataka. The company announced the order on Thursday.
The project will be set up at Challakere in Karnataka. The area has seen several large renewable energy developments in recent years and continues to attract utility-scale solar projects due to available land and grid connectivity.
The contract covers a solar photovoltaic project with an installed capacity of 280 MW AC and 410 MWp DC. In addition, the project includes an 80 MW battery energy storage system with a total storage capacity of 320 MWh. The storage system is intended to support power supply beyond solar generation hours.
Hartek Power has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope for the project. The work includes design and engineering, supply of equipment, erection and commissioning of both the solar plant and the battery storage system.
As part of the agreement, the company will also be responsible for operations and maintenance for a period of one year following commissioning. The maintenance scope covers routine operational support for the project assets during the initial phase of operation.
The total purchase price for the signed and agreed scope of work is approximately ₹353.77 crore. The value includes costs related to the solar photovoltaic installation, the battery energy storage system, EPC activities and the one-year maintenance period.
Battery energy storage systems are being added to large solar projects to manage fluctuations in generation. Stored energy can be supplied during periods when solar output is low, helping balance supply and demand on the grid.

The Challakere project adds to the list of large solar installations in Karnataka that include battery storage. Such projects form part of shift towards integrating storage with renewable power generation in India.
