EbixCash World Money has announced that it has received a perpetual licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with an expanded scope of permitted activities. The company said it is the first Authorised Dealer Category-II (AD-II) entity in India to receive such authorisation under the revised Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) framework.
The development follows regulatory changes introduced by the RBI in May 2026 that broadened the activities allowed for AD-II entities. The licence upgrade is expected to expand the company's role in India's foreign exchange and cross-border payments ecosystem.
EbixCash said the upgraded RBI authorisation makes it the first AD-II entity in the country to receive a perpetual licence with expanded operational permissions. The licence allows the company to undertake additional foreign exchange activities under the revised FEMA framework.
The development represents a significant regulatory milestone for the company. It also reflects the RBI's broader efforts to expand access to certain foreign exchange services beyond traditional banking channels.
Under the expanded authorisation, EbixCash can now process trade remittances of up to ₹25 lakh per transaction. The company is also permitted to facilitate family maintenance remittances under the revised FEMA regulations.
Previously, trade-related foreign exchange transactions were largely handled through banks and Authorised Dealer Category-I entities. The revised framework has widened the scope of activities available to eligible AD-II entities, creating additional channels for permissible cross-border transactions.
The new authorisation could provide an additional avenue for businesses involved in import and export activities to make eligible overseas payments. This may be particularly relevant for micro, small and medium enterprises seeking foreign exchange solutions for lower-value trade transactions.
EbixCash stated that the approval strengthens its position in the cross-border payments segment by integrating foreign exchange, remittance and payment services on a single platform. The company believes the expanded mandate enhances its ability to serve both business and individual customers.
EbixCash World Money currently offers foreign exchange services, international remittances and prepaid travel card solutions. According to the company, the upgraded licence will enable it to broaden its product offerings for customers making permissible overseas payments.
The company also stated that it has RBI approval to maintain Nostro accounts and works with multiple banking partners for forex distribution. Commenting on the development, Managing Director and CEO TC Guruprasad said the licence reflects the company's focus on governance, compliance and customer protection since 1999.

AD-II entities are RBI-authorised organisations permitted to carry out specified foreign exchange activities, including currency exchange and selected remittance services. The revised FEMA framework has expanded their potential role in India's evolving cross-border payments landscape.
EbixCash's latest approval allows it to undertake a wider range of foreign exchange transactions, including eligible trade remittances and family maintenance payments. The development highlights the ongoing regulatory changes aimed at increasing access and efficiency within the country's foreign exchange ecosystem.
