Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced commercial production at Plant D, the fourth manufacturing plant at its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, effective 30 July 2026, as per the exchange filings.

The new facility adds 250,000 units of annual production capacity, taking Maruti Suzuki's overall manufacturing capacity in India to 2.9 million units per annum while increasing Hansalpur's capacity to 1 million units annually.

Hansalpur Reaches One Million Units Capacity

With the commissioning of Plant D, Hansalpur has become the first Suzuki manufacturing site globally to achieve an annual production capacity of 1 million units. The milestone also makes it India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location.

The company has invested ₹25,288.7 crore in the Hansalpur facility, including an estimated ₹3,900 crore for Plant D. Spread across 640 acres with an integrated suppliers' park, the new plant will initially manufacture the e VITARA, Maruti Suzuki's flagship battery electric vehicle (BEV).

Manufacturing Network and Export Hub

Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing capacity now comprises 1 million units at Hansalpur, 0.9 million units at Manesar, and 0.5 million units each at Gurugram and Kharkhoda.

Hansalpur currently manufactures the Baleno, FRONX, Swift and e VITARA, with Plant D dedicated to the e VITARA. The facility also serves as a major export base, contributing nearly 47% of the company's overseas shipments during FY 2025-26.

Expansion Backed by Sustainable Infrastructure

The company highlighted that Hansalpur commissioned India's first automobile in-plant railway siding under the PM GatiShakti programme.

Since March 2023, the facility has dispatched over 750,000 vehicles by rail, reducing transport-related CO₂ emissions, lowering fuel consumption and easing road congestion. In February 2026, the railway siding became the world's first Modal Shift Transportation Project registered under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) programme.

Executive Commentary

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, “Gujarat has emerged as a manufacturing and export hub for Maruti Suzuki, backed by strong infrastructure and a progressive industrial ecosystem.

The start of commercial production at the fourth plant of our Hansalpur facility augments its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, making it India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location.

The new line will further strengthen our ability to meet the growing demand from customers in India and overseas while advancing our ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision and expanding our global footprint.”

He added that the fourth plant strengthens production capacity to meet demand in India and overseas, supports the "Make in India, Make for the World" vision, and, together with the upcoming Sanand facility, advances the company's long-term goal of 4 million units of annual production in India.
