The plant was commissioned on 24 September 2026 as a pilot project and will produce hydrogen for use in manufacturing operations.
Using Unused Solar Power
The plant will use solar electricity generated at the Manesar facility to produce hydrogen. The company said solar power generated during holidays, when it would otherwise remain unused, will be used for this purpose.
The hydrogen will be stored and used later in the manufacturing process. Before use, it will be blended with natural gasand used as process fuel at the facility.
Expansion to Other Facilities

The company is also working on other energy projects. At its Kharkhoda facility, a 10 tonnes per day biogas plant is in the advanced stage of construction and is to be commissioned during FY 2026-27.
A 1 MWh battery energy storage system has already been commissioned there.
Other Measures to Cut Emissions
Maruti Suzuki has started using compressed biogas as a process fuel. Its board has also approved four CBG projects, with a budget of ₹561 crore.
The company is using solar power generated at its facilities as well as renewable power purchased through government sources and third-party agreements.
Emissions Target
The company said its manufacturing operations currently account for about 615,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. It has set a target to bring this down to 266,000 tonnes by FY 2030-31 through the use of different energy technologies.
