
India's automobile industry reported a healthy set of sales numbers for July 2026, with strong demand across passenger vehicles and two-wheelers despite higher vehicle prices and global uncertainties. Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the passenger vehicle market with record monthly sales, while Hero MotoCorp remained the country's largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Several other automakers, including Kia, Suzuki Motorcycle India and Renault India, also posted healthy year-on-year growth.

Maruti Suzuki retained its leadership in the passenger vehicle segment after recording its highest-ever monthly sales of 2,41,421 units, including a record 2,00,123 domestic sales. The company also reported a 33% year-on-year increase in production to 2.49 lakh units, supported by robust demand for SUVs and CNG vehicles.
In the two-wheeler space, Hero MotoCorp remained the market leader with 5.33 lakh units sold during July. Domestic sales rose 21.6%, while scooter sales surged 32%, reflecting strong demand across product categories.
Among other manufacturers, Kia India posted its best-ever July wholesale performance with 28,200 units, driven by sustained demand for the Seltos, Sonet and Carens range. Suzuki Motorcycle India also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales at 1,42,985 units, while Renault India reported a 27.9% increase in domestic wholesales.
Strong monthly sales across leading automakers were mirrored in the stock market performance of the Nifty Auto Index.
The index gained around 7.32% during July 2026, rising from 26,783.20 at the start of the month to 28,744.15 on July 31, its highest closing level for the month. Although the index witnessed some mid-month volatility due to fluctuating crude oil prices, investor sentiment remained positive amid robust sales numbers, healthy production trends and expectations of sustained festive season demand.
The July auto sales data reflects resilient demand across India's automobile industry, with Maruti Suzuki continuing to dominate the passenger vehicle segment and Hero MotoCorp maintaining its lead in two-wheelers. Strong performances from Kia, Suzuki Motorcycle India and Renault further indicate broad-based strength across the sector. Coupled with the 7.32% monthly gain in the Nifty Auto Index, the latest sales figures reinforce optimism around the industry's growth trajectory heading into the festive season.
