GAIL Share Price in Focus; Subsidiary Commissions PTA Manufacturing Plant in Mangalore, Karnataka

GAIL (India) Limited's wholly owned subsidiary, GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL), has commissioned a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) manufacturing plant at the Mangalore Special Economic Zone in Karnataka.
The facility has an installed production capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The plant was originally established by JBF Petrochemicals Limited (JBPL), which later went through the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP).
GAIL acquired the company in 2023 under a resolution plan approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
Following the acquisition, GAIL undertook refurbishment and revival work at the facility before bringing it into operation. The work involved engineering, technology and operational challenges, the company noted in an exchange filing dated November 5, 2026.
PTA Used in Polyester Manufacturing
PTA is a key raw material in the production of polyester fibre, yarn and PET resin. These products are used across the textile, apparel and packaging industries.
The commissioning adds 1.25 MTPA of installed PTA production capacity to India's manufacturing base. GAIL expects the facility to improve domestic availability of the raw material and reduce the country's dependence on imports.
The plant is also expected to supply raw material to India's downstream polyester industry. However, the company has not disclosed its expected production levels or the timeline for reaching full capacity.
Production to be Sold Under G-Tex Brand
The Mangalore plant is located close to New Mangalore Port. It has dedicated logistics infrastructure for the movement of raw materials and finished products.
GMPL will sell its PTA production under the brand name G-Tex. GAIL plans to use its existing marketing network and customer base to market the product.
The commissioning follows three years after GAIL acquired JBPL through the insolvency process. The facility's operations mark the completion of the revival work undertaken since the acquisition.
