GAIL (India) Ltd is looking to add to its gas pipeline network, LNG sourcing and shipping operations, petrochemical business and LPG infrastructure, Chairman Deepak Gupta said at the company’s 42nd annual general meeting, as per The Economic Times news report

Gupta said disruptions in global energy markets during the year had brought supply security into focus. Tensions in the Middle East and disruptions to LNG movement through the Strait of Hormuz affected prices, freight rates and the availability of cargoes.

Gas Network to Grow Further

GAIL’s natural gas pipeline network currently extends beyond 18,690 km, with another 1,500 km under construction. The network is expected to move closer to 20,000 km after the ongoing projects are completed.

The company is also expanding its LPG pipeline business. Capacity at the 1,427-km Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline is being doubled to 6.5 MMTPA from 3.25 MMTPA.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has also authorised GAIL to develop three LPG pipelines covering about 1,775 km.

LNG Sourcing and Shipping

GAIL’s LNG portfolio stands at 16.56 MMTPA, comprising long-term contracts and market-linked purchases. It imported 132 LNG cargoes in FY26, including seven spot cargoes.

The company now has access to nine LNG vessels, five of which are under long-term charter arrangements. GAIL Bhuwan has a capacity of 180,000 cubic metres, while Energy Fidelity has a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres.

Petrochemicals and Fertiliser Plans

At Pata, GAIL commissioned a 60,000-tonne-per-year polypropylene unit, increasing the integrated complex's capacity to 870,000 tonnes from 810,000 tonnes.

The company is also developing a 500,000-tonne-per-year PDH-polypropylene project at Usar, with an estimated investment of Rs 11,256 crore. Work is underway on a 1.25 MMTPA PTA plant at Mangalore.

GAIL has also given in-principle approval for investments of around Rs 21,000 crore in two gas-based fertiliser plants in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
