On June 17, 2026, Bharti Airtel announced the completion of Phase 1 of a strategic initiative to enhance mobile connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh.  

This project, in partnership with the Indian Army, focuses on remote and challenging terrains. 

Airtel's Strategic Initiative with the Indian Army 

Airtel has partnered with the 4 Corps of the Indian Army to improve mobile connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh. The project covers 30 Army stations in mountainous regions, providing reliable voice and data services. 

This initiative marks Airtel as the first service provider to offer dependable connectivity in these high-altitude areas, benefiting both military and civilian personnel. 

Deployment and Challenges 

The deployment involved significant logistical support from the Indian Army, including assistance with fibre deployment and power infrastructure.  

In areas without road access, the Army facilitated the movement of Airtel's technical teams and equipment.

Phase 2 Plans 

Encouraged by the success of Phase 1, Airtel and the Indian Army plan to expand the network to 15 additional locations in Arunachal Pradesh. This expansion aims to further bridge the digital divide in these remote regions.
