August Auto Sales Report: Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Hyundai Post Growth

Automobile sales for August presented a somewhat varied but generally favorable picture for the car industries covered in the report. Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India
reported higher numbers in key areas, although the pace of growth differed from one business to another.
Segments like Tata Motors passenger vehicles, Mahindra's utility vehicles saw the most significant increases. Maruti also crossed 1 million total sales volume in the first five months of FY2026-27.
Tata Motors Gets A Boost From All Its Businesses
Passenger vehicle sales of Tata Motors were up by 56% on a monthly basis to touch 67,753 units in August 2025. The divide between domestic sales, at 65,253 units and EV powered sales climbed to 94% to total 16,549 units.
The commercial vehicle division sold 44,411 units which was 29,863 last year. Sales from domestic CV business was up 33%, while international business surged by 227%.
Maruti Suzuki Crosses One Million
Maruti Suzuki sold 2,19,220 vehicles in August, including 1,85,376 domestic sales and 33,844 exports.
Utility vehicles accounted for 79,045 units.
Between April and August, total sales reached 11,43,365 units, taking the company past the one-million mark for the period.
Mahindra Reports Gains in Auto and Tractors
Mahindra's total vehicle sales, including exports, stood at 1,07,648 units, up 42%. Domestic utility vehicle sales increased 50% to 59,257 units.
Its tractor business sold 29,507 units, while Trucks & Buses sales rose 47% to 2,495 units. Exports in the auto business increased 71%.
Hyundai Records Highest August Domestic Sales
Hyundai Motor India recorded 65,796 total sales in August. Domestic sales were 54,396 units, up 23.6% year-on-year.
The company said these were its highest-ever domestic sales for an August month. April-August domestic sales were also 12.6% higher year-on-year.
