Aditya Birla Capital Shares Gain Nearly 3% As Company Enters Gold Loan Business

Aditya Birla Capital has entered the gold loan business and plans to build a network of around 1,000 dedicated branches over the next three years, as per an exchange filing dated August 20, 2026. The business will operate under the company’s NBFC arm. 

The first stage of the expansion is already mapped out. Between 200 and 300 gold loan branches are to open by March 2027, before the network is taken further across India. 

Loans Against Pledged Gold 

The new business will offer loans against pledged gold. These loans will sit alongside Aditya Birla Capital’s existing retail and MSME lending products. 

Customers will be able to access the service through branches and digital channels. The company noted that the offering will cover loan disbursal and the handling of pledged gold, with lending subject to applicable terms and eligibility checks. 

Urban and Semi-Urban Markets 

The rollout will cover urban and semi-urban markets. Aditya Birla Capital plans to serve customers already using its financial services as well as bring in new borrowers through its branch and digital network. 

The company currently operates across personal and consumer loans, unsecured business loans, secured business loans, and corporate and mid-market lending. Gold loans will now become part of this lending business. 

Lending Book Continues to Grow 

The NBFC reported assets under management of ₹1,59,916 crore in FY26, up 27% year-on-year. Retail and SME loans made up around 68% of the total AUM. 

Disbursements during the year rose 25% to ₹84,204 crore, while profit before tax increased 20% to ₹4,023 crore. 

Aditya Birla Capital Q1 FY27 Performance 

In the first quarter of FY27, AUM increased 28% year-on-year to ₹1,67,456 crore. Disbursements rose 34% to ₹21,201 crore, while profit before tax was up 32% at ₹1,222 crore. 

The gold loan rollout comes as the company continues to expand its lending operations across different borrower segments.

Aditya Birla Capital Share Price Performance  

As of August 20, 2026, 1:59 pm, Aditya Birla Capital share price was trading at ₹407.70, a 2.95% increase from the previous closing price. 

Conclusion 

The company will begin its gold loan branch rollout with 200–300 locations by March 2027. Over the following three years, the network is planned to reach around 1,000 dedicated branches.
