BSE to Explore Launch of India Derivatives Linked to MSCI Indexes

BSE Limited has entered into an agreement with MSCI to explore the launch of futures and options contracts in India linked to a number of MSCI indexes. The proposed products will be introduced only after receiving the required regulatory approvals.
The exchange announced the agreement through an exchange filing dated August 19, 2026.
Index-Based Products Drive Derivatives Demand
BSE noted that the growing amount of capital benchmarked against indexes has increased the need for derivative products. The wider trading of index-based products through exchange-traded funds has also added to demand for futures and options.
Such contracts can be used by fund managers to manage equity exposure and facilitate fund flows. The agreement will allow BSE to examine contracts linked to MSCI's range of indexes for the Indian market.
MSCI Benchmarks Track $21 Trillion in Assets
MSCI indexes are among the benchmarks widely used by investment managers globally. As of 31 December 2025, more than $21 trillion in assets under management were benchmarked against MSCI indexes.
BSE has not specified the individual indexes that may be included in the proposed derivatives offering. Details regarding the structure of the contracts and their potential launch timeline have also not been announced.
BSE Expands Its Derivatives Offering
Founded in 1875, BSE is Asia's oldest stock exchange. The exchange already offers trading across several asset classes, including equity and currency derivatives, interest rate derivatives, equities, debt instruments, and mutual funds.
The proposed MSCI-linked products would form part of BSE's derivatives segment if the necessary approvals are received.
