Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL) has crossed 20 gigawatts (GW) of operational renewable energy capacity, becoming the first renewable energy company in India to achieve the milestone predominantly through greenfield development.
The company said its renewable energy portfolio generates more than 52 billion units of clean electricity annually, representing nearly 3% of India's annual electricity consumption. According to AGEL, this output is sufficient to power over 9 million households and is nearly equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of New York City or the combined annual power requirement of Mumbai and New Delhi.
AGEL achieved the milestone within a decade of commissioning its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016.
During FY26, the company added 5,051 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity, which it said was the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China.
According to the company, its operational portfolio now represents approximately 14% of India's utility-scale solar installations and around 12% of the country's utility-scale solar and wind capacity.
AGEL's operational renewable energy portfolio comprises:
14.2 GW of solar capacity
2.7 GW of wind capacity
3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity
The company has also commissioned 3.55 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which it said is the world's largest battery storage deployment outside China and among the fastest executed globally.
AGEL plans to add 10 GWh of battery storage capacity during FY27 and expand its battery storage portfolio to 50 GWh over the next 5 years, supporting its target of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
AGEL said its Khavda renewable energy project in Kutch, Gujarat, remains the centrepiece of its expansion strategy.
The project is planned to have a total renewable energy capacity of 30 GW across 538 sq. km of land. The company has already commissioned 9.5 GW of solar capacity at the site, representing more than 30% of the project's planned capacity.
