Deep-tech climate startup Neiox Eco Cycle has secured a ₹75 lakh prototyping grant from Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) under the USHUS Maritime Innovation Scheme, marking a significant boost for India’s growing maritime sustainability ecosystem.
The announcement was made at a signing ceremony held at IIM Kozhikode, where CSL handed over the cheque to Neiox founder and CEO Akhil Raj Pottekkat.
The funding will support Neiox’s work on the world’s first carbon-negative marine hull coating, a sustainable, non-toxic material designed to prevent corrosion and biofouling.
According to the company, the coating is produced from captured air pollutants, transforming harmful emissions that contribute to lung and cardiovascular diseases into value-added industrial materials. This innovation is expected to improve ships’ fuel efficiency, lower CO₂ emissions, and protect marine ecosystems, aligning with Kerala’s push to showcase climate solutions on the global stage.
As per the news reports, CEO Akhil Raj Pottekkat said the company’s mission is to turn environmental and health liabilities into economic assets. Recognised by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and supported by TBI NIT Calicut and LIVE IIM Kozhikode, Neiox Eco Cycle focuses on advancing climate action, public health innovation, and sustainable industrial transformation.
The signing event was attended by Dr Ashutosh Sarkar, Executive Director at IIM Kozhikode, KR Anjana, Chief General Manager (Design) at CSL, Krishna Prasad S, Senior Manager, and Lijo P Jose, Senior General Manager at LIVE IIM Kozhikode.
