In May 2026, certain stocks gained prominence in mutual fund portfolios, with HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), and State Bank of India (SBI) standing out, as per ACE Mutual Fund report.  

Over 600 mutual fund schemes held shares in these organisations. ICICI Bank had the most significant presence among funds. 

Key Banking Stocks in Mutual Fund Portfolios 

ICICI Bank was held by 761 funds, owning 214 crore shares valued at ₹2.68 lakh crore.  

HDFC Bank was not far behind, with 735 mutual funds holding 388 crore shares, translating to a market value of ₹2.89 lakh crore.  

SBI had 708 fund holders, with 121 crore shares worth ₹1.21 lakh crore. 

Non-Banking Stocks Held by Funds 

Outside the banking sector, Bharti Airtel featured prominently, with 706 mutual fund schemes holding 74 crore shares valued at ₹1.35 lakh crore.  

Alongside this, RIL was held by 668 funds, with 135 crore shares totalling a market value of ₹1.79 lakh crore.  

Axis Bank was also a preferred choice, held by 650 funds, totalling 103 crore shares worth ₹1.33 lakh crore.

Tech and Engineering Giants in the Mix 

Tech giant Infosys was present in 613 mutual fund portfolios. The funds held 90.97 crore shares, collectively valued at ₹1.02 lakh crore.  

Engineering firm L&T was held by 601 funds, with a shareholding of 27.85 crore shares worth ₹1.13 lakh crore, further demonstrating the diverse interest across industries. 

Conclusion 

In May 2026, mutual fund ownership of key stocks included HDFC Bank with 388 crore shares, ICICI Bank with 214 crore shares, and RIL with 135 crore shares. These figures underline the sectoral and organisational preferences among mutual funds during this period.
