The Ministry of Defence has signed 13 contracts worth ₹1,981.90 crore to support the Indian Army’s counter-terrorism operations. These deals fall under the Emergency Procurement (EP) mechanism, which allows quick purchases for urgent operational needs. Reports suggest that the total sanctioned budget for these procurements was ₹2,000 crore.
All contracts were executed under fast-track procedures. The aim was to ensure that equipment could be inducted quickly, without the usual delays. According to the ministry, the goal is to improve the Army's situational awareness, mobility, protection, and strike capability during counter-terrorism missions.
The contracts cover a range of equipment. These include Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS), Low-Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR), and Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS) with launchers and missiles. Drones and Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs), Loitering Munitions, including Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) systems.
Other items being acquired include loitering munitions with vertical take-off and landing features, bulletproof jackets, and ballistic helmets. Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs) in both heavy and medium categories are also being procured. Night sights for rifles are included to assist soldiers in low-visibility conditions.
Separately, as per an ANI report, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has offered 28 of its systems to the armed forces for emergency procurement. The list includes rockets, torpedoes, laser-guided bombs, and several types of missiles, including Nag and Rudram. These systems were submitted to the Ministry for consideration under the emergency route.

The Ministry's recent contracts are an effort to fill gaps in the Army’s counter-terrorism capacity. The equipment has been selected and approved for rapid deployment, with an emphasis on readiness and indigenous production.
