The Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) and Zomato have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in New Delhi to expand access to technology-enabled, flexible livelihood opportunities via the National Career Service (NCS) portal.
The pact seeks to deepen the formalisation of platform work and widen real-time income options for delivery partners and gig workers.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Ms Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for Labour & Employment, and Ms Vandana Gurnani, Secretary, MoLE. Dr Mandaviya said the partnership will “integrate platform economy roles into the formal employment system, connecting youth and women jobseekers to dignified, technology-enabled livelihoods.”
The minister also noted that the NCS portal, launched in 2015, has mobilised over 7.7 crore vacancies to date and remains a key bridge between job seekers and employers.
Under an ‘Aggregator’ category on NCS, Zomato will list around 2.5 lakh flexible livelihood opportunities annually, giving structured access to real-time earning avenues. Ms Karandlaje said the move supports PM-VBRY and the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, while Ms Gurnani highlighted that India’s social security coverage has climbed from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, now reaching 94 crore citizens, and that new career listings will go live around Diwali.
Over the last year, MoLE has signed MoUs with 14 organisations, including Amazon, Swiggy, Rapido, Zepto and TeamLease, collectively mobilising over 5 lakh employment opportunities; Zomato’s addition strengthens this expanding ecosystem and reinforces efforts to extend social protection to gig workers.
