Total Indian Market Capitalisation Reaches 500 Lakh Crore Despite Nifty Remaining Below Peak

The combined market value of companies listed in India surpassed the ₹5,00,00,000 crore threshold for the first time. The total market capitalisation concluded at a record ₹5,02,70,000 crore on November 5, 2026, marking an increase of ₹8,28,000 crore from the preceding session, as per NDTVprofit news report.
Conversely, the benchmark Nifty 50 index finished the day at 24,536.60, remaining 6.8% below its record closing peak of 26,328.55 established on January 2, 2026.
Mega Initial Public Offerings Drive Capitalisation Gains
The expansion in total market valuation is primarily attributed to 2 major corporate listings that took place after January 2, 2026.
Jio Platforms debuted on October 28, 2026, after raising ₹30,213 crore in the largest initial public offering in India, reaching a market value of ₹13,06,000 crore by November 5, 2026.
The National Stock Exchange listed on the BSE on September 24, 2026, and achieved a valuation of ₹4,69,000 crore.
Together, these 2 entities accounted for ₹17,75,000 crore, which represents approximately 86% of the total market capitalisation gain of ₹20,69,000 crore achieved since January 2, 2026. Because neither company belongs to the Nifty 50 index, their valuation expands the total market figures without impacting the benchmark index level.
The total number of companies tracked on the BSE grew to 6,202 from 5,912 in January, aided by a record 70 listings in September 2026, comprising 32 mainboard and 38 SME platform debuts.
Heavyweight Largecap Decelerations Suppress Main Index
The benchmark index faced downward pressure from its most heavily weighted constituent stocks. Since January 2, 2026, HDFC Bank fell 24%, Infosys dropped 29%, and TCS declined 23%.
Additionally, ITC lost 20%, Reliance Industries diminished 17.5%, and Hindustan Unilever moved down 16%.
The Nifty IT index witnessed a total contraction of 14% during this period. The combined value of the 10 most valuable listed corporations dropped to ₹1,01,89,000 crore from ₹1,03,86,000 crore.
Data released by Motilal Oswal Financial Services indicated that largecap shares fell 10% over the past 12 months, trailing behind midcaps which fell 4% and smallcaps which remained flat.
Sturdier Growth Metrics Across Broader Market Indices
Excluding the top 10 largest enterprises, the remaining listed universe expanded to ₹4,00,81,000 crore from ₹378,16,000 crore. While the Nifty Midcap 150 experienced a minor reduction of 1.3%, the Nifty Smallcap 250 index climbed 4.4% and the Nifty Microcap 250 index advanced 10.1% since January 2, 2026.
The Nifty Total Market index, which monitors 750 separate equities, stayed 3.1% underneath its January record point.
Conclusion
All India market capitalisation hit ₹5,02,70,000 crore on November 5, 2026, gaining 4.3% from ₹4,82,02,000 crore on January 2, 2026. Jio Platforms and NSE contributed ₹17,75,000 crore to this surge, while the Nifty 50 index declined 6.8% to 24,536.60.
