The Ministry of Tourism has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the parent company of IndiGo, to promote India as a tourism destination, as per a PTI report.
The agreement is non-exclusive and does not involve any financial commitment from either side. It will remain valid for an initial period of 2 years. The MoU was exchanged in New Delhi in the presence of Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Under the agreement, the Ministry and IndiGo will jointly roll out a campaign titled 'Incredible India by IndiGo'. Destination-based campaigns may also be taken up in selected domestic and international markets.
The initiative will showcase different tourism segments, including heritage sites, natural landscapes, pilgrimage destinations, wellness tourism, wildlife, adventure tourism and other travel experiences across the country.
The campaign will be carried out through digital and print media, airport branding, in-flight communication, social media and international travel exhibitions.
IndiGo will develop destination-focused content for its customer communication platforms, while both organisations will participate in tourism events and other promotional activities agreed upon during the partnership.
The Ministry of Tourism will provide access to the 'Incredible India' brand assets and promotional material. It will also coordinate with relevant government departments and stakeholders, wherever required, to support campaign activities.
IndiGo will use its domestic and international network to distribute tourism-related content through its existing passenger communication channels.
The IndiGo agreement comes four days after the Ministry of Tourism signed a similar MoU with Air India on July 27. Both agreements are part of the Ministry's engagement with airlines to expand the reach of tourism communication using existing aviation networks.
The arrangements are non-financial and outline separate responsibilities for each organisation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Shekhawat said the partnership combines the Ministry's 'Incredible India' initiative with IndiGo's route network to take information on Indian tourism to a wider audience.
He said such collaborations form part of the government's plans to strengthen tourism promotion through partnerships with industry stakeholders.
