On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the NIFTY50 index opened at 24,077.55 and went on to register an intraday high of 24,143.15. The index faced selling pressure and closed at 24,055.80, down by 24.60 points or 0.10%. 

Advance Decline Ratio of NIFTY50 on September 1, 2026 

The advance-decline ratio for the NIFTY50 index remained negative, with 20 constituents out of the 50 ending the session in the green, while 30 closed in negative territory and 0 remained unchanged.

Top Gainers on September 1, 2026 

ITC Limited (ITC) emerged as the top gainer on September 1, 2026, with its share price rising 4.34% to ₹266.60 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 3,12,32,541 shares. 

Bharti Airtel (BHARTIARTL) ranked second among the top gainers, with its share price advancing 3.60% to ₹1,877.20 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 98,99,659 shares. 

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (ADANIPORTS) was the third top gainer, with its share price gaining 3.41% to ₹1,647.50 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 37,70,067 shares. 

Top Losers on September 1, 2026 

Shriram Finance (SHRIRAMFIN) ended lower by 4.58% at ₹1,059.10 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 56,70,625 shares. 

Maruti Suzuki India (MARUTI) share price declined 4.41% to ₹12,950.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 9,15,695 shares. 

Nestle India (NESTLEIND) shares fell 3.90% to ₹1,438.20 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 25,54,784 shares.

Conclusion 

The NIFTY50 index closed lower by 0.10% at 24,055.80. The market breadth was weak with a negative advance-decline setup despite recovery gains in major FMCG and Adani Group counters. ITC, BHARTIARTL, and ADANIPORTS emerged as the top gainers, while SHRIRAMFIN, MARUTI, and NESTLEIND were among the top losers on September 1, 2026.
